Olwyn Brown
Board Member
Olwyn Brown is a 28-year member of Carpenters Local #713 in Hayward, California. She serves as a Board Member for the Retention Apprentice Mentoring Program (RAMP) and Tradeswomen, Inc., focusing on providing comprehensive support for workers in apprenticeship programs, fostering mentor-peer relationships, and promoting group dynamics for retention success. Tradeswomen, Inc. was one of California’s pioneering organizations for advancing women in the trades and has since become one of the most impactful and active organizations in the country. Its mission to address the unique needs of women in skilled trades has made a significant impact in the industry. Olwyn also serves on the board of the California Policy Center for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (CPCIDD) and is a council member of the California State Board. In these roles, she contributes to strategic, research-based approaches to identifying key issues and strengths within systems supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). In addition, Olwyn has volunteered with Rebuilding Together for over 20 years, reflecting her dedication to uplifting communities and making a positive impact through hands-on work.
Joyce Guy
Board Member
Joyce guy has been a longtime supporter of Trades Women Inc. Her first encounter with the women in the trades was with an agency called women and apprenticeships that was based out of San Francisco CA in 1980. Joyce Guy is also an army veteran who has been stationed in various places overseas and the United States. Her union construction career started with her working in the local shipyards and then moving over to iron workers local 378 and is now a proud retired member. She has worked for the Alameda County building trades council, Alameda County central labor council, California State building trades and is now the Executive Director of the West Oakland Job Resource Canter, which assists people from the greater and getting into the construction and building trades. Joyce Guy has always been a strong supporter of women in nontraditional roles of employment. Over the years the West Oakland job Resource Center has partnered with Trades women's Inc on various projects such as grants and hosting women workshops and informational trainings. I look forward to supporting such an amazing organization as they do the good work regarding women and non-traditional / construction jobs.
Alice Smith
Board Member
Alice Smith, 35 year retired Stationary Engineer IUOE Local 39. Her career started as an Apprentice Engineer in the hotel sector of our Union. She wanted to move up the ranks, and moved into the Commercial High Rise Building sector then into one of the few Data Center in San Francisco. Became a Assistant Chief then 1 of 6 female Chief Engineer's in the Bay Area. Finished her career opening 350 Bush St. with its historical side and the brand new building. Alice used skill set to volunteer in many non profits trying to educate women and girls helping their skillset to be comfortable using tools and helping answer all questions. She is the lead volunteer for Rebuilding Together, SF with their SHEBuilds program with all female volunteers helping women owned homes and Childcare Centers.

Shirell DeFils

Shirell DeFils has 30 years of experience in Carpentry, specializing in Bridge Building and Operable Walls. She was passionate in helping Apprentices complete their 4 years, so to be a Coordinator at the Apprenticeship was her end game plan - before retiring. Through the Carpenters Apprenticeship, Shirell has held positions with the Outreach Department, an Apprentice Coordinator, and Insturctor's Assistant. Her positions held has had her interacting with many dignitaries, event planning, meetings, marches, and attending many Apprenticeship events, while still maintaining active Apprentices. She is sure her new adventure with Tradeswomen, Inc. will be just as gratifying!

Kellye "Eboni" Mckinley

Eboni McKinley is the founder of Our Sisters’ Keeper (OSK), a peer-led, mutual support group for marginalized women in Marin City and beyond. Eboni has the relationships, connections, and deep community knowledge about the hardship’s women face, especially in Marin City. She also has the expertise and facilitation skills to bring women together and create an environment of trust and sharing that can lead to personal growth.
Eboni founded Our Sister's Keeper (OSK) in 2015 and has been generously providing informal support for women on her own time and with her own resources. The services she provides include career inspiration, support group meetings, life skills workshop, entertainment, and more. As the founder of OSK, she envisions a world in which all women regardless of race, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, income level, or socioeconomic status, are nurtured and empowered to reach their fullest potential. Eboni ensures that Our sister's keeper is committed to the “whole woman” mind, body, spirit, and future. This fosters social connection for women through support groups, individual life coaching, and access to ancestral healing spaces that address intergenerational trauma, social isolation, depression, the challenges of parenting, abuse and discrimination.
These businesses were started with the intention of making her underserved community a more livable city. Her businesses were strategically created to serve specific needs in the community. Eboni’s tireless efforts over many years have made her the go-to person in Marin City for providing under-the-radar support services for vulnerable women, community building through shared learning with OSK, and entrepreneurial training for local youth with her small businesses. She envisions a world in which all women regardless of race, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, and socioeconomic status, are nurtured and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
