JVS, CTWI-BTC, BayWork, & Los Medanos College are working with TWI to bring you this Utilities-focused Pre-Apprenticeship Training opportunity.

Do you enjoy working with your hands? Are you interested in learning about careers in the trades such as Electrician and Mechanic? Union apprenticeships and careers at public agencies offer great benefits and opportunities for advancement. Get prepared to perform well on apprenticeship and civil service exams with this free 16-week program. Women and job seekers with previous conviction histories are encouraged to apply. 

Get Prepared for a Skilled Trades Apprenticeship 

Are you interested in a union apprenticeship at a public agency? Get the skills you need to pass the exams and be successful in your job search. 

This part-time program provides:

  • Paid on-the-job training at Bay Area public agencies 
  • Preparation for success in the union apprenticeship and civil service process 
  • Instruction in math, test-taking strategies, and spatial & mechanical reasoning 
  • Job search skills, cover letter and resume assistance 
  • Site tours of potential employment sites at water and wastewater agencies 
  • Post-internship job placement services & referrals to job openings with Bay Area agencies 
  • Referral to local apprenticeship and civil service testing opportunities 

Application Process:

  1. Fill out the online application here: www.jvs.org/utilities 
  2. Eligible applicants with complete applications will be invited to math testing and an in-person interview 
  3. High-scoring applicants will be accepted 
  4. Selected candidates will be invited to attend a mandatory orientation/welcome session

August 24th – December 18th, 2020 

T/Th 5-9pm Sat: September 19th/26th 

Location Los Medanos College 2700 E Leland Rd, Pittsburg 


  • Age 18 or older by August 1st, 2020 
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. by August 1st, 2020 
  • Able to obtain a driver’s license 
  • Interest in the skilled trades 
  • GED or high school diploma (preferred)
